What Is a Certified B Corporation™ — and Why Should You Care?

Making smart, well-informed decisions when choosing a snack is always a good idea. It’s not only important for your mental and physical health — it’s also about making sure the companies behind the snacks are committed to doing good for people and the planet.

SimplyProtein® is proud to be a Certified B Corporation™, which means it meets high standards [YG1] of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. Certified B Corporations are all about caring for their employees, communities, and the global environment. It matters to consumers because, ultimately,  B Corp™  certification demonstrates that a company is genuinely committed to taking steps that will lead to a brighter, more equitable future for everyone.

There are currently over 6,000 Certified B Corporations in more than 80 countries. B Corp™ certification is unlike any other business certification. That’s because non-profit organization B Lab™ uses unique measurements that closely examine a company’s social and environmental impacts and requires a legal commitment to stakeholder governance.

Getting certified isn’t easy and doesn’t happen overnight — it requires a lot of commitment and continuous improvement. To become certified, a company has to complete B Lab’s official B Impact Assessment™. It’s a digital tool that helps to measure performance across many different areas of a company, including its environmental impact, and how it deals with communities, customers, suppliers, employees, and shareholders. The process looks at how the company treats its workers, gives back to its community, and reduces its environmental footprint. The B Impact Assessment™ also questions a company's governance structure and accountability. Companies must achieve a minimum score of 80 points on the assessment to be B Corp Certified. Plus, recertification is required every three years to show continued commitment to balancing profit with purpose. SimplyProtein earned an overall score of 94.3 on the B Impact Assessment. (The median score for ordinary businesses who complete the assessment is currently 50.9.) [YG2]

When a company meets B Lab's high standards for social and environmental responsibility, you can feel good about supporting them and encouraging business practices that prioritize employees' rights, corporate ethics, diversity, and community development.

Certified B Corporations often contribute to their local communities through fair wages and charitable initiatives. When you support them, you're indirectly helping to foster community growth and equity, making a positive difference in the lives of those around you. Many B Corps also work hard to minimize their environmental footprint by using sustainable ingredients and resources, renewable energy, waste reduction, and more. Supporting these companies means supporting the fight against climate change.

When you buy a product or service from a Certified B Corporation™, you're doing more than making a simple purchase: You're showing that consumers like you care about businesses that work to make a difference. Your choices can encourage other companies to adopt better practices and are supporting the B Corp™ Movement.

Certified B Corporations like SimplyProtein value more than just profit — they value a better world. By being a part of the community of consumers who share these values, you can be a powerful force for change in the world.
