Mylene Paquett

Mylène Paquette - Professional Athlete, Ocean Rower

Only 396 people have managed to cross the oceans in the world rowing, including six Canadians. Two men in solitary and four other people that crewed Mylène herself! January 12 to March 10, 2010, she was part of a team of six rowers having covered the 2800 nautical miles between Morocco and Barbados. During this trip she accumulated more than 680 hours of rowing in 58 days.

During this first trip, Mylène was the only American, French and woman aboard the boat, so she had an opportunity to tame her loneliness. While her teammates coveted Barbados, Mylène coveted the North Atlantic. The first crossing was a stage for her to gain the experience necessary to leave alone.

This first crossing's perfect preparation technique has developed her endurance and given her the confidence to one day face the ocean alone. The comments she could make during the crossing have strengthened the conviction of Mylène that it is essential to protect the oceans.

"I hardly hide my excitement of being part of another event of this magnitude. When I discovered the train ocean, a few years ago, I immediately knew that it would one day be my turn to throw myself on the ocean alone. It will, no doubt, be of the utmost difficulty but I have done great so far and I know I have the determination to achieve it."

Following her last Atlantic crossing in a rowing boat, Mylène has finally realized one of her dearest wishes, to become a speaker. She is eager to share her passion, the wonder of her story and your inner motivations with her audience by her unique experience.

Ricki Heller is a college educator with a PhD in Modern American Literature. In addition to this, Ricki is a whole foods chef and freelance writer. She has studied Natural Nutrition at The Canadian School of Natural Nutrition and wrote the Canadian bestseller, “Sweet Freedom: Desserts You’ll Love Without Wheat, Eggs, Dairy, or Refined Sugar.”

About Sweet Freedom:

Ricki’s cook book; Sweet Freedom, received honorable mention in the 2010 Cuisine Canada Culinary Awards and is even recommended by Ellen DeGeneres! It contains more than 100 original recipes for amazing sweet treats made with whole, natural ingredients (nothing artificial, and without additives, chemicals, or artificial colorings).

“I’ve been a fan of the Simply Bar ever since it first appeared on the shelves of my local health food store. With the recently updated recipe, I’ve fallen in love all over again! My favorite flavor is Cinnamon Pecan, which is perfect for someone like me (on a low glycemic diet) as it contains more fiber than sugar! The new bars are sweet enough to satisfy my sweet tooth without being cloying or filled with refined sugar. And they still provide the same excellent source of portable protein for those afternoon energy slumps.

I’d recommend The Simply Bar for anyone looking for a delicious healthy snack that’s crunchy, sweet, and satisfying, all in one portable, gluten-free, low sugar and vegan package.”

Snack foods in general cause discomfort to patients with IBS as well as those with lactose, gluten and fat intolerance. This product is gluten free, has no lactose, is low in fat and therefore will be tolerated by persons with IBS, IBD and food intolerances. It should serve as the ideal snack for these individuals.

- Dr. KN Jeejeebhoy, Director of Nutrition Support, Senior Staff

I really enjoy your bars. Some protein bars are just massive, chewy chunks of chocolate. As I am a triathlete, my nutrition needs are very high. When I find these bars, I grab up as many as I can.

- Male Athlete, Toronto

I have IBD and I am also gluten intolerant. I tried your product and thought that it was a god- send. I couldn't believe how much I loved it and went back to buy more to put in my desk for snacks each day. I really enjoyed it and thought, FINALLY I've found something I can enjoy! Cheers to you.. I keep spreading the news to everyone that I know.

- Woman with Crohn's, Toronto

Maintain your weight and performance In season my race weight is very important to my performance, and Simply Choices help me stay away from bad snacking habits.

- James Jacek-CôtéWestmount

Thank you very much for the awesome snacks! They are perfect. It is so hard to find food that fits my diet restrictions and is portable! They taste great and, nutritionally, are fantastic.

- Dietitian with Crohn's, Winnipeg

Thank God for you. I have NEVER been so happy as the day that I found your bars. A healthy snack that 100% won't make me sick. Keep up the good work. I eat one bar everyday.

- Woman with Celiac disease, Toronto

I am a big fan of your bars, as a long time vegan and a professional, I have consumed your products since they were first marketed, fed them to my family, and recommended them to my clients and co-workers.

- Kristine Elliott

My partner loves them and I'm going to love them after I have another few. :) As well, I spread them around to some of my favourite clients.

- Female Personal Trainer, USA

My friends call me an 'extreme' athlete but in truth I enjoy pushing my body. The Simply Bar was such a crucial find for me. I just completed my first ironman in November; The Simply Bar was great for all the distance I put my body through. It was easy to digest and provided me energy that was constant and balanced without being too sweet. I can't thank you enough.

- Female Athlete, Toronto

I just want to tell you how impressed I am with your bars. I discovered them two days ago at the Coffee Tree cafe and could not believe my eyes when I read the nutritional info chart on the back of the package. I have been on a serious medically-supervised diet for 2 years and have lost 110 lbs. Protein bars have been an essential tool for my success. I was using ones called "Proti" bars but they are no longer sold where I used to purchase them. Since then, I've been on an endless search for a protein bar low in calories and high in protein. Yours are not only delicious, but they meet all of my nutritional expectations and beyond. THANK YOU!!!!!

- Jessica Duarte

I haven't eaten protein bars before, but I had to change my diet recently, and one of the snack recommendations was a protein bar. I didn't like all the extra ingredients (what I call "crap") in the recommended ones or the high number of calories in most of them. It was also extremely difficult to find good organic ones. Plus, the organic ones tended to be all nuts and dried fruit: a yummy combination, but too high in fat and sugar for me. So, when my parents told me about your bars and gave me a sample, it was a relief. Your Simply Bars don't bump up my calorie count and leave me hungry; they're tasty and I've discovered a good burst of fuel for the brain. I enrolled in National Novel Writing Month and spent the month of November writing my novel. I discovered that eating half a bar of cocoa raspberry (I think the cocoa was definitely key) before I sat down made it easier to write and to stick the course until I'd finished my chapter for the day.
